Purpose
These notes are the beginning of a database systems branch. Right now the material comes mostly from DDIA, but the section is organized by subject so future storage-engine, query-processing, and transaction notes can live beside it.
The best starting path is reliable, scalable, maintainable applications, then data models and query languages, then storage and retrieval. The distributed pieces continue with replication, and the dataflow material picks up again in batch processing.
Notes
- Foundations: chapter 1, chapter 2, chapter 3, chapter 4
- Transactions: transactions, serializability, and isolation levels, MVCC and snapshot isolation
- Query processing: query planning and join execution
- Distributed data: preface, chapter 5
- Derived data: chapter 10
