Purpose
This section groups the computer systems material by subject rather than by source. The main branches are operating systems, scheduling, networks, distributed systems, databases and data-intensive systems, performance engineering, and systems research.
The boundaries are porous on purpose. Scheduling is its own branch because the same policy questions show up in CPU runtimes, packet handling, load balancing, and model serving. Networking and operating systems meet in queues, interrupts, and resource scheduling. Distributed systems reuse ideas from networking and storage. Performance work cuts across all of it.
